A driver in a Porsche assaulted a female passenger of another car in central Warsaw after she drew attention to his erratic driving. Staff sergeant Marta Haberska of the Warsaw II district police headquarters told Interia that the man had been weaving across the road and creating a danger for other road users. An eyewitness said he also fought two other drivers.
The incident happened on Thursday before noon on Czerniakowska Street, before the junction with Aleja Witosa. A couple travelling in a silver Toyota noticed the dangerous driving. A reader who sent an account to Interia said that after a horn sounded, the Porsche driver stopped before a pedestrian crossing and got out.
According to that witness, the driver walked up to the Toyota, which was stopped ahead of the witness’s car, yanked open the passenger door and began attacking the woman inside. A recording shared with the newsroom shows the woman falling to the ground after being struck, while the attacker grappled with a man who was with her and tried to defend her.
A loud argument followed until another road user stepped in. The reader said a man in a grey tracksuit stopped behind his vehicle and immediately got out to help the injured woman. That attempt failed: the witness said the attacker punched the intervening man repeatedly in the face while holding his head with the other hand.
The aggressor then got back into the Porsche and drove away, even as witnesses and the injured woman tried to stop him. As he pulled off he lightly struck one of the men who had become involved. The witness who provided the recording said he was appalled by the driver’s conduct.
Haberska confirmed that officers did not detain the attacker at the scene because he had already left. A patrol later carried out checks and spoke with eyewitnesses; the account they heard matched what had been sent to Interia. A medical rescue team also attended. The injured woman was treated on the spot, declined an offer to be taken to hospital, and was told of her rights. Haberska said an infringement of bodily integrity of this kind is an offence pursued by private prosecution.
At about 10:00 on Friday, less than a day after the events, Haberska said police had still received no formal report about the case. The witness also claimed that a holster with a pistol and a knife were in the Porsche’s side-door compartment. Asked about that detail, the police spokeswoman told Interia that no such information had reached the force.
