A sports car stopped near a pedestrian crossing on a tree-lined Warsaw street in daylight.

The incident happened on Thursday 15 October at about 10:40 in the Mokotów district of Warsaw. A Porsche with German registration plates was involved, and police say its driver hit a 66-year-old woman who was travelling as a passenger in a Toyota.

The couple in the Toyota had seen the Porsche drifting from side to side across the lane. The Toyota’s driver sounded the horn and signalled to the other man. He stopped in front of a pedestrian crossing, got out and attacked the passenger.

Staff sergeant Paweł Chmura of the press office at the Warsaw police headquarters told TVP3 Warszawa that the Porsche driver stopped before the crossing, left the car, struck the 66-year-old several times, then drove off. TVP3 Warszawa reported that the woman fell to the ground and that the attacker also kicked her in the head. During the getaway he is also said to have hit her husband.

Paramedics treated the woman at the scene. Police are still searching for the Porsche driver. Accounts passed on by the broadcaster say he spoke Polish fluently and without an accent, while the car itself was registered in Germany.
